WOW!! it's only 9 days till Christmas and 8 sleeps till Christmas eve.Last night we had our school break up and we had a picnic. How is it over in France? It's been wet most of the time . On the second to last day Kauri and Titoki had tent day, mufty day and we also had a shared lunch. it was fun.

Hi Jade last night it was the Yr 6 graduation I was was the third person out of the whole thing to do my speech at first I was a bit nervous but then I got the hang of it. The only dissapointment for me was that because i was around one of the first people to go it seemed like ages before evry one else had theres. The disco was AWESOME the only bummer was that there were no lollies and their were no fizzy drinks

Elections 2008 - Mr. Poehler

Hi,

I am Mr. Poehler the Graduate student in Mr. Hornby's room for the last four weeks. I have been on assignment in Kauri class as the last assignment for the Primary Education course. I will graduate at the end of November and be a qualified Teacher!

I am American, and I have just finished voting in the Elections for President. This election was particularly exciting, as it was a very controversial one for several reasons. It was the second Term for W. Bush, and as such he had to step down. This meant that there was going to be a new President that nobody had known before.

Another reason it was exciting was that it was the first time an African American had a serious chance of being elected. This is a very important point in history, and very surprising for a lot of people, beacuse voters who had been not only traditioonally Republican, but those who had been traditionally Conservative Democrate had been swayed and convinced to vote against thier historical behaviour.

The result this week then has been Surprising and Pleasing for millions of people, and a potentially huge turnig poinjt in both American politics and history.

This term the senior syndicate made up names for our mini election . I am in the Lolly Sports Party . I was going to be in the HappyHalloween but all my friends were in te Lolly Sports party . In the Lolly Sports Party we do all sorts of fun activitys like Apple Bobbing , Obstacal Course , Hurdles , Badminton and lots more . On Tuesday and Thursday we had all of the sports that we had thought of and the juniors and middles came and did them . I am in charge off the equipment with Morgan. Petra is the candidate and Grace is the Campaign manager.

I am in Lolly Sports. It's a mix between heaps of Lolly and lots of fun sports. We mostly have party games. Petra is our candidate. Grace is the manager and Ella and I are the scrutineers the people who count the votes. On Tuesday I wasn't there but Petra said heaps of people came to our activity and had lots of fun which is a good sign we will get heaps of votes. The candidate is the person who is in charge of the activity. I reckon heaps of people will vote for Lolly Sports but we will have to see. The manager is the person who is second in charge of the group. All of our team when we were deciding who would be the candidate the manager and the two scrutineers.

I am the candidate for lolly Sports. It's a mix between lots of lollies and lots of fun sports.We mostly have lots of fun party games and you win lots of lollies and other prizes. We had fun on Tuesday because lots of people came to our activity. I hope i win for candidate.

We started off with learning the songs.After that we red little bits of the scrip soon came the auditions when the characters were chosen they practised there lines. Miss Mel had to help with the dances because Mrs Bunny had baby Johnty to look after.Amber's mum did the backdrop it was amazing.We had two day peformances and one night.The night peformance was an excellent.

Today we are doing two production peformances, one afternoon and one evening performance.I am so exicted about my parents coming to see me tonight.I am a backround singer for Anya(Mum),
doing a highlight(Gymnastics) and I am in the girls 1500m race at the end of the show.My favourite parts of the production are singing the song Hero and the finale Reach.

Yesterday we went to our first senior production at the St Mats hall but we weren't allowed to go in as early as we thought we could because the St Mats students were using the hall so we had to wait outside for at least qurater of an hour. I am in the jump- jam team and I was going to be higlight for Equestrian but Mr Simons decided that he didn't want Equestrian to be in the show. My friend Emma-Lee has a main part and her name is Sue and in the show she has to act like a spoilt brat and her dad is Ricardo and they are both very rich. In the show the jump-jam team does three dances one of the dances that we do is called Lets get loud we also do the finaly and the bongo dance my favorite dance is most definitly Lets get loud i like Lets get loud because i get to run around with a metal pole an some purple ribbon on the top. It's sometime's really hard for me to get my pole with the ribbon on the top because the person who gives it to me dosen't even reach out enough for me to take it ouy of her hand so instead i have to go backstage and collect it

On the 8th of September 2008 the senior syndicate of Solway School went to St Matts for our last practice of the play because on the 9th of september 2008 (today) we have a day performance and hopefully everybody has their costumes.We have 3 performances total. The practising has all gone fast. We have practised for at least 4 weeks. I tried out for a part but unfortunately I did not get one, but I probably didn't have a loud enough voice. My mum is watching the show today.

Anya Friday 5th September

Today we went to Saint Matthews for a practise .We were given a lift in other people`s cars .We practised our dances and we had and early lunch .Most of us had our Costumes.

Petra-Friday 5th September 2008

Today the senior syndicate went to St. Matthews and had the 2nd to last dress rehearsel. There was lots of parents to help with transport. Sometimes it gets boring being backstage all the time.I need to work on remembering to go on, on my first part . I am better at remembering my line I forgot the first time. I changed my costume because the other one was really big. This one takes longer to get into because there are more items then the one that I had. I think that this production is going to be the best production that the senior syndicate has ever done so far.All of my friends are main characters exept for 2 of my friends,but every one in the senior syndicate has at least one time were they go on stage but they don't talk they just act. I am a commentator and I am in all of the dances,one of the dances I do is just the jump jam team.

Today the senior syndicate went to Saint Matthewsfor our 2nd to last dress rehearesal. There were heaps of parent helpers to assist with transporting us there. I think I need to work on getting to backstage a little while before my part I qalso need to work on my voice to make it louder. I need to bring my costume next time. I also need to practise my new lines. I saw some people backstage mucking around climbing up the stairs.

We just did our last practise that we are doing in the hall. My part is doing a race and and my highlight is shooting and my partners are Connor and Adam.

Hi this is Steve Hornby the teacher of Kauri at Solway Primary School in Masterton. We are a year 5 and 6 class in the North Island of New Zealand, about 1.5 hours drive from Wellington, the capital city. This is our first try at blogging and hope to reflect on some of the things that are happening at school.
